About the Baking Bandit

Firstly, I’m not really a bandit. Sadly I don’t own a mask or some sort of weapon for holding up stage coaches, which is a shame really, because I’m sure its a dying art. However, I do love baking. I’d almost go as far as to say I love the process of baking more than the eating, but I’m not sure that would be entirely true. In the last year I’ve started recording my baking adventures by capturing them in photographs and I thought that now (yes, right now, right in the midst of writing up my PhD – is there a better time?) would be just the moment to take my love of cake to a new level. Nothing socially unacceptable mind. I just thought I’d take the opportunity to chart my baking highs (and possibly lows, although hopefully there won’t be many of them) and share the nicest recipes with anyone who wishes to give it a go themselves. I might also review my local baked goods haunts around Edinburgh.

Additionally, last November Mr. Bandit (we’ll call him that for now) asked me to marry him and in amongst planning all the things that a wedding involves, I decided to make the cakes (yes, that was plural) myself. So I have begun to experiment with ideas for our cake table – because there’s no such thing as too much cake and we don’t like ‘proper’ wedding cake anyway. So I will chart those cake-y experiments on these pages, and we’ll see whether in July 2013 we have a feast fit for a king, or a dog’s dinner.

If anyone else wants to share a recipe, or a good baking yarn (there have to be a few of those) or a review of some exceedingly good cake – get in touch!
